It takes ingenuity to simplify the complicated.

During our Analysis Phase for one of the most widely used Airline MRO systems out there today, we were stunned to learn that one of its primarily intended user-groups - the mechanics, are so fed up with system that they have gone back to hand-write their work on a three-paged paper-log, fax the record back to home-office, and have people re-enter into the system.

In our opinion, such complete and utter disregard to usability, is what has created the most distrust between the Business Users, Owners and the IT-Department/personnel amongst many companies, because business-owners, users and entities can be forgiving, to the miscommunications and misunderstanding by the IT personnel regarding the business-processes for which they support (even though, it really shouldn't happen). In fact, if a System has a "whoa" factor in terms of its GUI and usability, the business-owners are more likely to give the IT processes more time to recover from the mistakes. But having a system with the complete disregard to usability, to the degree that the users revert back to the paperwork days, is simply not acceptable.
